Tasteless Food - Non Merci

Ever since I can remember, I have always adored food but not in a "oh that's nice" way, more in a "first love of my short little life" way. My family and I used to eat out more than anything (partially because my dad is scared that my mom will make tuna pasta with bacon sauce again - now that story deserves it's own post). Bottom line - I know good food when I taste it.

So lately I have become increasingly disappointed with the quality of food that I've been experiencing in restaurants and I'll tell you about my tasteless food epiphany. In Johannesburg a new little place always flares up and then suddenly dies down and I figured out why! Every place always appear to have this amazing new and innovative menu and you think: "Aw man this is absolutely fantastic." Recently, it was me behind the "new and innovative menu" at this cute new place in Parkhurst. So what happened? I ordered pasta and the sauce was exactly the same as a restaurant that I went to a few weeks earlier about 60 km away and by exactly I me even the peppercorns looked the same.

As you can imagine I was quite disgusted and decided to do a little digging on the matter. I was shocked when I discovered that most restaurants buy precooked sauces, precooked pasta and even precooked meats! Very few places still make their own things and that to me was astounding. No wonder everything is so tasteless wherever I go and that is definitely not for me! Non Merci!
